A kitchen remodel starts with how you use the room. We look at which walls can move, which ones carry load and where the plumbing already runs. Then we draw a layout and price it, so you see the number first.
Our kitchen work includes islands, custom beams and fireplace surrounds. One great room we remodeled has a double-sided fireplace that opens to two rooms. Another job added a fireplace surround in a bedroom.
Bathroom remodels run the same way. We plan the layout, the tile and the fixtures, then schedule the licensed plumber and electrician around the framing. Tile and fixture choices move the price, so they get priced with the rest of the job.
Island homes take their weather off the water. Wet winters run November to March, and rain finds its way behind siding, trim and deck ledgers. By the time a stain shows up inside, the water has usually been there a while.
We look before we commit to a design. We find and fix structural, weather and moisture problems while we remodel. That means rot in framing, failed flashing, wet crawl spaces and beams that were never sized for the span.
On an older house we draw as-built drawings of what is actually there. Rooms get changed over the years and the old plans rarely follow, so we measure the house instead. The redesign then starts from real dimensions.
Adding on to the home you have loved for years is its own kind of build. The addition needs a foundation, a roofline and siding that read as part of the original house. We design it against the as-built drawings so the new floor plan connects the way you expect.
An exterior remodel can change a house completely. A recent job took a stucco house to cedar shingle siding, a new roof and a new deck. Running them as one project means the flashing lines up where siding, roof and deck meet.
Island County reviews building permits, and it reminds owners that new and replacement roofing projects require one. We purchased our dream home on the west side of Whidbey Island above the Puget Sound with 180-degree views of the water and the Olympic Mtns. While we knew the driveway would need to be redone eventually, we soon learned that proper drainage to protect the house and garage had never been installed when the house was originally built. Jeff and his team resolved all of our issues. In front of our garages, Jeff installed proper French drains, a catch basin, and sump pump that pumps the water away. At the same time, Jeff installed proper drainage around the house. Our driveway was a packed dirt path with virtually no stone base. Jeff initially properly graded the driveway before first add a stone base, then a finishing base. After compacting the stone material, our driveway is almost as hard as concrete or asphalt and is 2-3 feet wider and more accessible. While Jeff was working near the garage with his excavator, he accidentally hit the gutter. Jeff immediately told me what happened and within 48 hours, Jeff had an outside gutter company come in and replaced the entire gutter. I appreciated his upfront honesty. As to communication, Jeff could not have been better. I found him through a Google search. He returned my original call within 2 hours. On Whidbey Island you are lucky to even have a contractor return any call. Jeff came out the same day to scope out the work and started the job within 10 days in my case. He and has team where there each day continuing to make progress. Needless to say, I give Jeff a 5-star review and when the next project comes up, I will certainly be reaching out to Culver Construction. Think this review isn’t legit, think again. I’m a small business owner with 50 employees, worked with countless vendors and customers. I know what good service looks like and when it isn’t.
