Questions About Building and Remodeling on Whidbey Island
These are the questions Whidbey Island homeowners ask us most: how
custom home pricing works, permits and the energy code, whether we work
with your architect, what the site work involves, and how estimates and
scheduling work. If yours is not here, call or text and we will answer it.
It starts with an estimating study. We price a full materials list for your plan with local vendors, then add labor and the work orders. You get a bottom line you can read line by line, and the estimate is free.
Do you charge for an estimate?
Estimates are free. Call or text (360) 544-9027 and we will set up a time to look at the lot or the house. For a new build, the detailed estimating study comes once there is a design to price.
What areas do you work in?
Whidbey Island is home ground, from Clinton and Langley up to Coupeville and Oak Harbor. We also work north over the Deception Pass Bridge into Anacortes, Mount Vernon and Burlington. Camano Island and Stanwood are on the list too. See the towns we build in for the full picture.
Can you work with my architect?
Yes. We build from an architect's plans and handle the changes that come up during construction. When there is no architect on the project, we design in house and take the plan through the permit set. A licensed engineer stamps whatever the plans call for, and we coordinate that.
Do you handle permits and the energy code?
We prepare the permit set and plan the insulation, window and ventilation package the Washington State Energy Code calls for. Island County reviews and approves the permit. The county also asks for a septic design, water availability verification, an access permit and an address assignment. Inside city limits the city handles permits, so confirm the current list with the office that covers your lot.
Do you do the site work and the driveway too?
Yes, with our own equipment. We run excavators, a mini excavator, dump trucks and a skid steer for clearing, grading, building pads, drainage and driveways. Doing the dirt work under a build in house keeps the foundation and the drainage on one plan. French drains, catch basins and curtain drains are regular work here.
How long does a custom home or a remodel take?
It depends on the design, the county's review of the permit, the site and the weather. A one room remodel runs much shorter than a house built from a raw lot. We give you a schedule once the design is set and the permit is filed. We build one home at a time.
What should I have ready before you come out?
Bring what you have: property lines or a survey, septic and well records, and any existing drawings. Photos of the problem areas help on a remodel. If the lot is raw, tell us what you know about access, water and power.
